Admission are open for One-year Postgraduate Diploma and One-year Diploma program for session 2008-09 at Indian Institute of Journalism & New Media, Bangalore.

The details are as follows.

The key requirements are:

Commitment to Journalism-
Journalism is a field that values individuals who are curious, well-read, enthusiastic, creative and who have demonstrated initiative in their work and studies. We seek highly motivated students with a passion for the field and a keen interest in what is happening around them. This may be reflected by outstanding prior work in journalism, or by describing clearly what motivates him/her to a career in journalism.

Writing Skills-

We expect journalists to be sensitive to language and to organize their thoughts clearly and coherently. Good command of the English language is a must.

Education-

One-year Postgraduate Diploma: A Bachelor's degree in any discipline is required. Applicants awaiting final year examination results or who will be graduating this year may also apply.
One-year Diploma program: Students who have completed or awaiting results for 10+2 / pre-university are eligible to apply.

Background and Life Experiences-

Consideration will be given to the applicant's background and life experiences that would contribute significantly to a dynamic and diverse student body.

IIJNM admits both Indian and international students. Selection is based entirely on merit, without any regard for gender, race, religion, or caste. There is no age bar.

Admission procedure for the diploma programs:

1. Completion and submission of application form.
2. A personal interview.

Completion and submission of application form
All application materials must reach IIJNM by May 30, 2008, for the July 2008 entry point. The application will not be considered unless all materials are typewritten (or printed legibly), signed and dated. The applicant's full name must appear at the top right corner on each page of the application and supporting materials. Applications that do not reach by their due dates may not be considered.

Note: Early applicants may submit their applications prior to March 31, 2008, for consideration. These applicants will be notified of conditional acceptance by May 15, 2008. Admissions will be confirmed subject to qualifying examination results.

The following materials must be submitted to the Admissions Committee:

1. Completed application form (see "Application Form").
2. Supporting materials (if any) such as writing samples (published or unpublished), record of achievements, etc.
3. Copy of official transcripts of academic records. Applicants awaiting examination results may also apply.
4. Two letters of recommendations from current or former academic faculty or professional superiors. The applicant must ask those writing recommendations to sign across the sealed part of the envelope used. Recommendation letters must accompany the application form.
5. An essay describing the applicant's reasons for wanting to pursue a career in journalism, and what the applicant hopes to achieve in this career (not more than 250 words).
6. An essay on a recent event that received major national or international attention, and the applicant's personal views on it (not more than 1,000 words).
7. The Rs. 500 application-processing fee by bank draft payable in Bangalore.

Acknowledgement of applications will be e-mailed or posted within 10 days of receipt.

Personal interview
Interview will be conducted by telephone or in person at least 10 days prior to start of the academic year. Those finally selected for admission will be notified within seven days following the interview.
